Up Nursery to Maclears Beacon

An ambitious plan to walk at Scottie pace up Nursery Ravine and across to the aquaduct where we will divert to check for any early Drip Disas, and then carry on to Maclears Beacon. It will take us at least 4 hours to get to this point, and another hour to get to the Cable Station where we hope that they will allow two tired Scotties to take the cable car down. We will leave a car at the end - or ask someone to lift us back to Kirstenbosch. Meet at the top gate - Rycroft Gate - at Kirstenbosch at 7h30. Bring money for the cable car and Wild Cards, lunch and plenty of water.

Ash Valley circuit

Meet at the Rycroft Gate (top gate) at Kirstenbosch where you can park on Klaassens Rd, at 8 am. We will walk the dog route round the lower dam, then head up Nursery Ravine and carry on along the Nursery Valley path until we get to the Hely Hutchinson Dam. We then swing back along Ash Valley to join the main path where we will turn right and head back down the Jeep Track to Constantia Nek where there will be a car to take us back to Klaassens Rd.
This is a long walk that will take the best part of the morning so best not to come if you have a lunch date!

Up Skeleton to see the Red Disas

A walk without dogs - so we will start at the old, original entrance to Kirstenbosch - where the Plant Centre is - at 7.00 am to try and beat the heat.
We will walk up Donkergat and Skeleton Gorge, and then on to the Aqueduct, and down a very beautiful little gorge where we will stop for tea beside a cool pool filled with disas - if the whole of Cape Town is not up there again! After tea we follow the stream all the way down to Terence Timoney's waterworks museum, across the dam wall, through another incredibly beautiful and forested valley that comes out at the top of Nursery Ravine.
Set aside the whole morning and cancel all lunch dates, because we don't intend to break any time records!
