Saddle Up and Down

Starting at Newlands Forest, we will go up to the contour path and then up Fernwood Ravine to the Saddle. In winter and early spring the Erica abietina subsp diablolis are out in full bloom and in November this is when the Peninsula Skolly - the Peninsula's only endemic butterfly - is on the wing. From the Saddle we will go down the zigszags to Tafelberg Rd. Looking towards Cape Point. The Pulpit and Dark Ravine.
Devil"s Peak erica on the Saddle.

To the Saddle via Oppelskop Ridge on Devil's Peak

Shirley describes this as an "easy-rising, circuitous route up to the Saddle and easily down via the Zigzags Path. A very nice walk with good views over the city and bay, and many flowers to see in the spring." (Page 28 of A Walking Guide for Table Mountain.)
It will take about 3 hours. Dogs encouraged to deal with muggers - anyone got a cattle prod too??
Meet at the parking spot on Tafelberg Road - about 2 km from cable station - with the large gums trees. There is a signpost opposite the car park on the side of the road.
